As all you Mid Century Furniture Lovers out there will know, MIDCENTURY EAST is coming soon! Curated by Modern Shows, it is packed with Europe's finest dealers in Mid Century goods. But what makes it an even more brilliant event is the fact that it all takes places in Haggerston School.
It is such a special building! Now Grade II listed, it was designed by Ernö Goldfinger for the county council in 1963-5. Open House London describes it as 'containing some of Goldfinger's boldest and most handsome public interiors.'

The school is rightly proud of its heritage and especially of the fact that Goldfinger studied under Auguste Perret, (one of the first architects to develop the use of concrete aesthetically) and was influenced by the detailing and plan-forms found in Le Corbusier's work (plus he knew both architects personally).

So, when you go and visit just check out the refined use of tough materials in the interiors - big amounts of dark brick, bush hammered concrete, panelled timber, coffered ceilings. It's enough to make you want to go back to school.
