Set of Four 1960's Mid Century Dining Chair by TON
Set of Four 1960's Mid Century Dining Chair by TON
This is a set of Mid Century Modern dining chairs, designed and produced by TON Furniture Company in the 1960’s Czechoslovakia.
As a result of Europe splitting in the West and East after the war, in the 1950’s TON was founded as direct evolution of the Thonet Company and was labelling its products as TON despite still using Thonet factories and workers, technologies as well as owning some of their original furniture patents rights.
These chairs date back to the so called Czech Brussel style of the late 50’s and early 60’s but you can clearly see a Scandinavian influence as well.
We love the dark brown colour and distinctive oak pattern of the wood, as well as the large gentle chevron shaped backrest and soft blue cushions.
These chairs were also produced with different wood and in different fabrics but this dark brown and blue combination works particularly well together. After all the years since they were originally produced, they still seem contemporary and modern.
The chairs are in good original vintage condition. The chairs have some normal wear and all have some patina on their surfaces gained from their use over the years but they are structurally fine without any damage to their construction. The damaged fabric has been replaced by a new one and the internal upholstery of the seating has been repaired according to the original.
