Red Modernist Flower Stand
Red Modernist Flower Stand
A wooden flower stand painted in bright red, produced in late 1940’s.
This piece is a nice example of the Avant-garde Modernist aesthetic. There were different variations of flower stands as it was a very admired piece of furniture and every modern household wanted one. This particular piece is believed to be produced in former Czechoslovakia and its design is similar to a model produced by Berkop Company.
The flower stand consists of four platforms each positioned at different heights, and are made to look as though they are floating on the central C shape pillar that effortlessly connects them.
Overall this piece is made up of a wonderful composition of simple geometric forms, and looks more like an Avant-garde sculpture or three dimensional version of an abstract painting than a piece of functional furniture.
The platforms, the base and support are made of solid beech and the flower stand is in good vintage condition with some wear and tear on its surface. We were able to trace the original colour and then repaint the whole piece in the same red shade, but kept certain wear and imperfection on the wood gained over the years.
