Pair of 1950's armchairs by Kropacek and Kozelka for Interier Praha
Pair of 1950's armchairs by Kropacek and Kozelka for Interier Praha
A pair of armchairs designed by architects and furniture designers Antonin Kropacek and Karel Kozelka. They designed these armchairs in 1940’s and they were first produced by Ceske Umelecke Dilny in Czechoslovakia.
This pair of armchairs together with a round coffee table was part of a set which was awarded a silver medal for furniture design at the VIII. Milan Triennale in 1947. These chairs are now considered as Czech 20th Century design icons.
These particular pieces are from the 1950’s and were produced by then newly established Interior Praha Furniture Company.
These chairs are very comfortable to sit on. There is a long removable cushion (in the original fabric) that covers both the seat and backrest. The design of the chairs itself consists of two interlocking ‘C’ shape forms of a seat and armrests. The oak wood has a particular nice dark brown pattern.
The simplicity and elegance of its shape together with the high quality material makes this set a real timeless furniture design masterpiece.
Both chairs are in great vintage condition. The chairs have been recently restored to the highest standard, using only original techniques and respecting the character of the chairs whilst reviving the natural pattern of the wood. The fabric strapes under the cushions were damaged and therefore replaced by an identical ones. The original fabric has been cleaned and is without any visible damage.
