1930's Modernist Cabinet

€940.00

This is a truly unique and extremely rare Modernist cabinet from the 1930’s. It was sourced from a Villa in Brno, Czech Republic.

The designer and producer of the cabinet is unfortunately unknown to us as it was most likely to be made as a one-off bespoke commission for a private client.

The cabinet has a striking red colour on the outside surface which nicely contrasts with the rich dark blue colour inside. The piece consists of two main parts. The lower part is the frame and legs together with one small drawer. This frame holds the main body which consists of one wide drawer, a large lockable swing door in the middle with eight shelves inside and two more shelves covered behind the two sliding glass doors at the top.

The cabinet has a nicely balanced composition between the proportions of the doors, drawers and handles. It is a very clean design with lovely details. Around the 1930’s artists and architects were inspired by the culture of the Far East. On this cabinet, we can find that influence as well. The red colour and the shape of the handles particularly are the clear reference of the Asian art.

This piece is a truly marvellous example of the sophisticated design and high standards of furniture production in Czechoslovakia of the early 20th Century.

The cabinet is in very good vintage condition with some minimal wear and patina.
