1920's Dining Chair model B 28 by Thonet
1920's Dining Chair model B 28 by Thonet
These dining chair were originally designed by the Thonet company in 1904, as model No. 28. This particular model is believed to be made by Thonet in one of their factories in former Czechoslovakia around 1926.
This piece has got an interesting design history; The seat and the circular (in this case oval) support underneath is a Thonet design typical of the early 20th century. But the position of the legs in the front and to the rear of the seat, together with the very simple shaped backrest was an adventurous design solution for this time. It meant that actually three legs instead of the usual two supported the backrest. Thanks to this ingenious design, the piece is a visually bold statement made up of only minimally shaped wooden pieces.
This particular piece has no visible Thonet Company label, however all the details and the craft indicates that it was produced by Thonet. Also this model can be found in various Thonet furniture catalogues.
The chair has been recently completely refurbished to its former glory. Our experienced restorer has carried the work to the highest standard, reviving the beautiful natural pattern of the darker colour seat and the honey colour of the backrest, the frame and the legs. There is some minimal wear and tear gained over the years but in general the chair is in great vintage condition.
