Furniture Restoration - Before and After
Who doesn't love a before and after photo? So, with that in mind we would like to dedicate this blog to our our lovely clients who we have worked with over the last year on bespoke projects. These are our favourites!
This is our most recent restoration, and it was such a joy to take the unloved FN 74 Mucke-Melder cantilever chair by H.J.Hagemann and bring it carefully back to life. The wooden armrests were completely refurbished by our experienced craftman and reupholstered in the Navy Leaf Recycled fabric by Kirkby Design. We decided to use this navy textured material because of its timeless and classic aesthetic as well as the way it offsets the chrome and caramel coloured wooden armrests. You can see it in our online shop here.
The original state of this iconic H269 Armchair by Jindrich Halabala was pretty bad when we first received it. But through the careful and painstaking refurbishment and upholstery, we belive we reinstated it to its former glory! The fabric we used was Emin Nightingale fabric by Kirkby Design.
There were actually a pair of these no.514 dining chairs by Radomir Hofman that needed some desperate TLC.
All parts have been completely refurbished and the frame strengthened in the recent restoration using original techniques, and then hand finished with Shellac varnish. The original damaged covers were replaced by a recycled bright orange fabric from the Kirkby Design Company, which we think looks totally rad.
The S 43 Tubular Chair originally designed by Mart Stam - a classic example of the radical Bauhaus aesthetic. Original, yet simple and functional, representing the very ethos of the avant-garde movement.
The veneered plywood was refurbished using original techniques and finishes, so that the beautiful natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest was revived. They both were subsequently finished by hand in Nitro varnish.
Finally, and by no means least, this 1960s cocktail chair was refurbished and reupholstered with 'Canvas Washable Sunshine' by Kirkby Design, according to a client's bespoke brief.
