1930's Modernist Desk Lamp
1930's Modernist Desk Lamp
This is an original 1930’s office/workshop desk lamp. Due to its design, it is often nicknamed the “gooseneck”. This piece can be fixed directly to the desk (of varying thicknesses) and the lampshade can be adjusted up or down and also to the sides. There is no on/off switch as the lamp can be plugged directly into the electric socket.
The design is influenced by the pre-war Bauhaus modernist movement. This minimal but perfectly functional design allows the right light intensity to radiate out, and so it’s the perfect lamp to use for reading, working or just as a support side light.
This piece is in good original vintage condition, showing some minor wear to the polished steel and few small dents on the lampshade. On some parts of the lampshade, the piece has acquired a patina which adds unique charm and character. The adjustable neck is slightly loose in some positions. There is a new brown coloured pleated cable which is in the style of the authentic design. The ceramic bulb holder is original and the lamp is fully functional.
